Second Annual “Barkannalia” Wine Festival set for August 1

For the second consecutive year, wine lovers have a unique opportunity to learn about and enjoy fine wines and foods at the Homeless Hearts Foundation’s “Barkannalia” Wine Festival. It’s set for Friday, August 1, 2008 at The Terrace in Cody. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Barkannalia is a fundraiser for the Homeless Hearts Foundation, and all funds go to the operation of the Loving Hearts Animal Sanctuary in Cody. Tickets are $45 per person, and are available at the Loving Hearts Animal Sanctuary, 3534 Big Horn Avenue and the Cody Country Chamber of Commerce.

This year, fourteen different wines are featured, and eight of those wines are paired with palate-pleasing dishes prepared by The Terrace’s Chef Ian McKenzie. Each wine and food pairing is at its own station and served by knowledgeable volunteers and staff. There is also a lateral tasting, offering attendees the opportunity to taste three different wines by two different winemakers and learn to distinguish the difference among them.

“This year’s Barkannalia is a casual approach in an elegant atmosphere,” Nancy Oakes, HHF Board President, says. “We’ll provide written information on the wines so guests will have something to take with them and keep as a reminder about those wines they particularly liked and about the food pairings. We think it’s a great way to enjoy an evening of fine wine and food and learn something as well.”

Barkannalia includes a silent auction and raffle, with the grand prize raffle of airfare for two and one week’s lodging anywhere in the world. Only 100 tickets are available – each for $100 – and all tickets must be sold before the drawing takes place. One outstanding highlight of the silent auction is a Ty Barhaug painting: an 8 x 10-inch winter scene of a person feeding a red fox titled “Hand Outs.”

Musicians from Dan Miller’s Cowboy Music Revue – Adam McOwen on fiddle and Tim Bushnell on guitar – will open the evening. Every attendee will receive a souvenir cork screw with the Homeless Hearts Foundation logo, and a special truffle from the Meeteetse Chocolatier.

To round out the evening, The Cody hotel is offering a special $129 room rate for revelers who would prefer to stay in town for the night. The offer includes transportation to and from The Terrace if requested. Call 307-587-5915 for reservations.
